IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Welcome to the Happy Valley PTA’s After-School Enrichment program! Each quarter, our PTA Volunteer Enrichment Coordinator recruits and organizes vendors to provide after-school learning opportunities for our students.

To run the On-Campus Happy Valley classes, each class is required to have a PTA Chaperone, per our insurance guidelines. Thank you to all the parents, guardians, and supportive grown-ups who stepped up as chaperone volunteers for this Spring's classes! We literally could not offer these classes without our chaperones. So, thank you to each and every one of you! If you have not volunteered to chaperone, but would be willing to, please email enrichment@happyvalleypta.com. Chaperones can receive a scholarship for their student to attend the class, so it’s a win-win for everyone!

SCHOLARSHIPS – Contact enrichment@happyvalleypta.com directly. Please contact before registration opens or prior to student registration for a scholarship code. Our PTA is grateful to our donors and supportive vendors, who help make scholarships available to ensure that all students have an opportunity to enjoy the enrichment program.
In recent years, scholarship needs have increased. Our commitment to ensuring that every student has access is unwavering. To ensure that we are able to continue to offer scholarship support for students throughout the school year, we offer multiple scholarship support levels: 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% PTA scholarship support. Scholarships are limited to one per student, of any amount, per session. By offering partial support scholarship options, we are hoping to increase the access for students while also ensuring funds are available to support other sessions.

Myth Makers     Wednesdays, 2:30 - 4;30     Grades 1-5
April 15 - May 27

Myth Makers, questnorthwest.com  An Exciting Team LARP Adventure!
Majestic Adventures is offering a new After-School LARP program designed to work in the once-per-week nature of after-school programs.
Though not an Adventure Quest program, it is active, exciting, and creative experience that draws on storytelling, imagination, acting, teamwork, foam-sword dueling, improvisation, and co-creation. Questers will find lots to be excited about! It allows a slightly higher ratio of kids to adults (1:10 vs 1:6), and so kids can enjoy questing on a team with more of their friends together.
Mythmakers is a series of daily, self-contained adventures all centered in the same fantasy setting (for example a neighborhood in a city). The self-contained nature of the adventures offers flexibility for tailoring adventures to fit the participants’ interests, and those who aren’t interested in the adventure-of-the-day always have the option to play a fun variety of sword games instead.
Each mini-adventure contributes to the ultimate goals of the season, such as building a stronger community and/or defeating a powerful antagonist. This means that participants build on one another’s achievements and by the end of the program, celebrate all that they’ve accomplished together. These programs use a simple LARP game system, with rules and powers that promote player choice and teamwork.

Girls on the Run     Thursdays, 12:20 - 2:05     Grades 3-5
April 16 - June 4; 5K on June 6

What IS Girls on the Run? The first thing you should know is that GOTR is NOT simply a running program - in fact, participants are not required to run at all, just MOVE at their own pace! The curriculum is developed by educators and designed to build strong youth in body, mind and spirit through active lessons and physical movement.  Whether kids are walking, running, hopping or skipping, they are doing it with a purpose - learning about self-talk, how to stand up for themselves and others, communicate their frustrations in a healthy way - all in a safe environment led by trained coaches who are also awesome role models.  And for the Grand Finale of the 8-week season, ALL of the teams from Whatcom and Skagit Counties come together to complete a 5K and celebrate, building confidence through accomplishment.
It is important to us at the YMCA that ALL GIRLS have the chance to participate regardless of their family's financial background, we offer the program on a Sliding Scale Fee Structure so that no girl is turned away due to inability to pay - no questions asked.

Let Grow Club     Thursdays, 12:20 - 1:20     Grades K-5     April 16 - June 4

A club where kids make their own fun, without adults organizing it: “just plain fun.”
That “fun” is how Mother Nature disguises the hard work. Because it is “fun” to play ball, kids learn the difficult skills of focus, compromise and empathy. Play jacks, you learn patience. Play superheroes, you learn to imagine. Play freeze-tag? Self-control. The Let Grow Play Club gives kids back the resilience-building playtime they need. It is supervised by adults, but they do not organize the fun or solve the spats. The chance to collaborate with friends, resolve disputes and bounce back from disappointments are confidence-and-character-building opportunities. At Play Club, kids get the social interaction they need to develop into empowered adults.

Yoga with Paper Crane Yoga     Thursdays, 12:20 - 1:20     Grades K-5     April 16 - June 4

Paper Crane Yoga reminds students that a flexible mind is just as important as a flexible body. Classes blend movement, intention-setting, crafts, and plenty of FUN! Kids will learn yoga basics, practice mindful breathing, and build meaningful connections through our seasonal sessions. Join us!

Chess (Strategic Kids)     Fridays, 2:30 - 3:30     Grades 1-5     April 17 - June 5 (no class 5/15)

Through FUN stories and EXCITING lessons, students will come away from the program with an understanding of how chess pieces move, checkmate tactics, and a variety of chess strategies. Lessons are tailored to the individual skill level of each student. Classes in person or online are interactive with opportunities to share and demonstrate what they are learning. Each session of class concludes with a tournament and opportunities to win prizes.

Knitting Club     Fridays, 2:30 - 3:30     Grades 3-5     April 17 - June 5 (no class 5/15 and 5/22)

Has your student ever wanted to learn how to knit? If so, this free after-school club is for them! Students will learn basic knitting techniques (cast on, knit, purl, bind off), and will work on a simple project (scarf, cowl, dish towel, leg warmers/etc.) that will span the duration of the meetings. Students are welcome to bring their knitting projects home in-between club sessions to continue to work on them outside of school (if desired). This club aligns with the PTA Healthy Tech Subcommittee's goals of helping students and families reduce screen time by discovering other creative activities to occupy students after school. The goal of Knitting Club is to teach kids a long-lasting skill that can promote happiness, creativity, self-confidence, pride in the process of creation, and also to create a safe place to hang w/friends.
