The 2026 legislative session runs from January 12 to March 12. Lawmakers need to hear from us NOW about the critical funding challenges facing our schools. Despite promises of full education funding, school districts across Washington are still facing significant budget gaps. These gaps force impossible choices—cutting staff, reducing programs, and eliminating essential services that students need to thrive. With enrollment declining in many districts, there’s a real risk that legislators will use this as justification for further cuts or to not preserve non-basic education investments made last session. But our schools cannot afford another hit. Even small reductions erode the progress we’ve made on student learning and well-being.

What We’re Asking Legislators to Do:

  • Avoid any cuts to school district funding and keep promises made in the 2025 session

  • Reinvest K-12 funding lost to enrollment decline back into districts to stabilize schools

  • Close the MSOC gap (Materials, Supplies, and Operating Costs) so funding reflects actual costs and keeps pace with inflation

  • Prioritize K-12 education in all budget decisions

Thank you for your advocacy! Together, we can protect and strengthen Washington’s public schools.

Past Education Funding Advocacy

As the state legislature begins to craft the budget for the 2025-27 biennium, we needed parents and caregivers to demand they fully fund PreK-12 education.

We asked parents to take 1-2 minutes to send this very easy email to their representatives.

Our PTA worked hard to get the word out about upcoming budget cuts and asked Happy Valley parents and supporters to take action to prevent those cuts, by contacting their legislators and asking them to fully fund K-12 education.
