Diversity & Inclusion Book Discussion Opportunity

Diversity & Inclusion Book Discussion Opportunity

Hi everyone. I hope that you all are staying safe and finding ways to navigate the challenges all of us are now facing. Though the plan to host a series of discussions on books about equity, inclusion and diversity was put on hold when the shutdown went into effect, this really can't wait any longer. The recent senseless and devastating killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery are the latest travesties in a long and ongoing pattern of extreme and unjust violence against People of Color of in this country--particularly Black people. Though I am horrified and outraged, I also realize that as a privileged white male, my understanding of the deep suffering and fury many are feeling is limited. I would therefore like to read and discuss the book "Between the World and Me" (by Ta-Nehisi Coates). Named one of the best nonfiction books of the last decade, it offers incredible insight into the life and experience of an African-American man in today's America.

As of now, I expect the discussion will be via Zoom toward the end of the month. If you are interested in participating please contact me directly at jkanov@gmail.com. I will follow up with those who contact me to make a specific plan. I have a small number of copies of the book I can lend out for those of you who are not able to acquire one in some other way. I look forward to connecting with those of you who are interested in this. Be well and stay safe. Jason Kanov
